A first: Pakistani businessmen to visit Israel

First-ever delegation from Muslim country scheduled to arrive in Israel in May for Agritech ’06 fair

The first-ever delegation of Pakistani businessmen is scheduled to arrive in Israel in May for the Agritech ’06 fair, Israel’s leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Wednesday.

The visit is yet another sign of the improved relations between Israel and the Muslim country.

Members of the delegation have already informed the fair’s organizers that they plan on examining the possibility of purchasing advanced agricultural equipment and new technologies for cultivating mountainous and desert regions.

The businessmen said are interested in signing deals for the purchase of greenhouses, irrigation equipment and other innovations that may be useful to Pakistani crop farmers.

Agritech ’06 Director Danny Meiri said the organizers were surprised by the fact that the Pakistani business did not even attempt to hide their identity and submitted their names and the companies they represent.

According to Meiri, some 50 additional businessmen from Arab and Muslim that hold diplomatic relations with Israel countries will attend the fair; so far businessmen from Afghanistan, Albania, Morocco, Malaysia, and Indonesia have signed up, he added.

The Agritech Arabic-language website has been visited by surfers from Iran, Iraq and Syria.
