Peeping soldier gets 25 days in jail

Soldier used peep hole to take dozens of pictures, videos of female soldier in shower; court rules he 'trampled the females respect'

An adequate punishment? A soldier who took pictures of females soldiers using a peep hole was sent to 25 days in jail and 35 days of military labor in an army facility in Haifa.

The military court demoted him from a corporal to private and ruled that "his actions constitute a serious strike to the right to privacy while trampling the rights and violating the respect of the IDF female soldiers". The maximum sentence for violation of privacy is five years.

For many weeks the solider took pictures of female soldiers in the showers using a cell phone. He amassed 33 computer video clips, 12 cell phone videos and 13 pictures.

One "filming" was cut short when a female soldier discovered the soldier and rushed out in tears.

'Deviant deeds'

The soldier told his friend to destroy the pictures lest they'd be used as evidence.

The prosecutor said that soldier failed time after time, using the holes in the shower's building and not just peeping but also taking pictures while seriously violating the trust and the delicate fabric of male and female solders serving together in the same base. The prosecutor asked the judges to sentence the soldier to a prison term.

On the other hand, the defense claimed that accused did not make the pictures public and added that he was an excellent solider and leader in his unit, and despite the incident it was decided to keep him in a combat service.

The judges ruled that "these deviant acts took place in an army base against female soldiers who were on operational activity, therefore the accused seriously violated the trust, which is supposed to exist between male and female soldiers in the base."
