Shin Bet nabs Jihadist terror cell

Security Service arrests Islamic Jihad cell whose members are suspects in a number of recent stabbing attacks and plans to kidnap Israeli civilians

The Shin Bet General Security Service last month arrested an Islamic Jihad cell whose members are suspects in a number of recent stabbing attacks and plans to kidnap Israeli civilians.

The cell members, who live near Jerusalem’s Atarot neighborhood and in Jenin, admitted to the accusations attributed to them.

Two suspects, Ahmed Badia Mustafa Hassin, 20, and Bilala Amin Mahmoud Kamil, 24, admitted that on November 25, 2005, they planned to murder a Jew to avenge the death of a Palestinian from IDF fire.

The two went praying at the al-Aqsa Mosque and later bought two knives in the Old city. They stabbed a haredi boy who was on his way home after prayers at the Temple Mount. He was seriously wounded and taken to hospital. Hassin and Kamil fled to Atarot.

Their second plot was to stab a Jew in the Atarot industrial zone. A worker was stabbed at a bus station in Atarot on December 29, 2005.

Over 70 Molotov cocktails were hurled at Israeli cars

On February 2 of this year, Hussein attacked a truck driver in Atarot, stabbing him in the neck and fleeing the scene.

The cell members were arrested last month. The members admitted they had planned to kidnap an Israeli to negotiate the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Their remand has been extended.

Meanwhile, three youths from the Issawiyeh village near Jerusalem were arrested on suspicion of involvement in Molotov cocktail attacks at Israeli cars traveling from Jerusalem to Maale Adumim.

The remand of the three, all members of Fatah, has been extended. Over 70 Molotov cocktails were hurled at Israeli cars near Issawiyeh over the last few months.
