3 boys injured in dud explosion
Initial investigation shows three found dud, started playing with it until it exploded; MDA rescue team evacuates them to hospital in moderate to serious condition
An 11-year-old boy was moderately injured and two teenagers aged 13 and 14 were seriously injured when a dud exploded near the northern village of al-Assad village in the Safed area.
An initial investigation showed that the three found the dud and started playing with it until it exploded. Paramedics evacuated the three to the Ziv hospital in Safed.
Emergency Room manager Dr. Hussein Amr said the three teenagers suffered from wounds all over their bodies.
“It is boy from the Beit Jan village who sustained shrapnel wounds to his legs. The other two teenagers are residents of the village nearby and they have been taken to the emergency room suffering from serious wounds in the chest, back and legs," he said.
"Their condition has been stabilized and they are not in a life-threatening condition. No doubt a big miracle took place and their injury could have been much worse,” the doctor added.
Police sappers conducted searches in the area for other duds. Police are checking whether the dud is a remnant of past wars or whether it has been hidden in the area by terrorists.
Two weeks ago, two Bedouin teenagers were killed and another was seriously injured when a dud exploded as they were shepherding a herd near an IAF base in the south of the country.
