Mega-bookshop opens in Tel Aviv

Now in Israel: Tzomet Sfarim book chain opens giant flagship store that promises to offer consumers whole new shopping experience, including reading corners, literary events and café

Just like in America: The Tzomet Sfarim bookstore chain opened its flagship store at the Dizengoff Center mall in the heart of Tel Aviv, with an investment of NIS 1.2 million (roughly USD 255,000.)

The branch, which is the chain's third store at the mall, joins the other 45 branches already operating across the country. Meanwhile, Tzomet Sfarim will open another five new branches next month.

The new concept store, called "The Library," spreads across 500 square meters. The store is furnished with huge wooden reading tables and chairs, upholstered reading benches, children's reading corners, shelves that will surround the entire complex, a corner dedicated for magazines, and plasma TV screens.

According to polls conducted by the chain, one of the Israeli consumer's main considerations for going through with a purchase stems from the shopping experience itself. Avi Shomer, the chain's CEO, said that "the book market in Israel has been undergoing many twists and turns in recent years. Most costumers prefer to buy books in large, designed shops where the shopping experience is no less important than the purchase itself."

A stylish café will open next to the shop, and the store's costumers will be able to order drinks to their reading table. In addition, the branch will hold a variety of literary events on a regular basis, including poetry and prose readings, the launching of new books, meetings with poets and authors, etc.
