Terrific bitch seeks similar for family

Strange email gives Mika new opportunity to find her match. Shir signs her up to a dating site

Mika had almost lost hope. She’s well groomed and she looks good, even though she’s carrying a few extra pounds. She’s got a warm personality, too, but none of this has helped her with the members of the opposite sex.

Where hasn’t she looked? In the park, in old newspapers, even in garbage cans. Nada. Mika has not found “the one.”

A strange email received by Mika’s owner, Shir, gave Mika a new opportunity to find her match. Shir did for Mika what any single woman would do for herself: She signed her up for a dating site, matchmypet.com, posted pictures with sexy poses, and bragged to the male dogs. What won’t we do to find a good match?

According to Mika’s profile, she’s a 4-year old Israeli Labrador Retriever, naturally blonde, and originally from Hungary. Though at 77 pounds she’s a bit overweight, she’s so beautiful that she could be a model.

In fact, her profile reads, three of her eight puppies modeled for Israeli toilet paper ads. She lives in Israel, near the beach, and loves to run in and out of the water. In addition, she likes long evening walks.

Serious proposals

“I must confess that at first I treated the thing as a joke, I thought it was a parody of dating sites,” says Shir. “But as soon as Mika’s profile became popular, I began getting serious proposals for a match.”

Mika has already “gone out” on a number of dates with sought-after bachelors, but after a bit of sniffing around she realized that the guy wasn’t for her, and she wasn’t prepared to compromise. “As far as I’m concerned she should keep going, it’s also fun for me to met new people who love their pet as much as I do,” says Shir.

Matchmypet.com is part of a trend of dating sites aimed at niche markets, such as religious people or vegetarians. The site also has a “playpen” where the user creates a list of friends (like the “hotlists” on dating sites), as well as a popularity rating for candidates, video clips, lists of local services such as veterinarians and dog walkers, events, recipes, and forums.

Nir Ohayon, one of the founders of the site, notes that “we took our inspiration from dating sites and built an exclusive profile that allows pet owners to find exactly what they’re looking for, whether for purposes of breeding, or just for platonic friendship.”
