Italian Premier Romano Prodi said Friday that Italian peacekeeping troops could leave for Lebanon as early as Tuesday, Italian news agencies reported, as Italy seemed poised to take a main role in the Lebanon peacekeeping force.
The cabinet was scheduled to meet to vote on the mission Monday afternoon, and "the Italian mission for Italy could leave as of Tuesday morning," Prodi told the ANSA and Apcom agencies. (AP)
