First place is…Member of Knesset Ahmad Tibi (United Arab List-Ta'al) was voted the most effective and active Arab MK, according to a survey among the Arab sector conducted last week by the Internet site Panet, affiliated with Arab-Israeli newspaper Panorama.
Thousands of the site's readers took part in the survey - which asked "which of the Arab MKs is the most active and effective from a public perspective" - and responded by text message.
In a close second was Tibi's fellow party member and party chairman MK Talab el-Sana. Dr. Hanna Swaid came in at a surprising third.
The rest of the ratings are as follows (descending order from fourth place): MK Abas Zkoor (UAL-Ta'al), MK Azmi Bishara (chairman, National Democratic Assembly), MK Mohammad Barakeh (chairman, Hadash), MK Raleb Majadele (Labor), MK Nadia Hilou (Labor), MK Jamal Zahalka (NDA), MK Ibrahim Sarsur (chairman, UAL-Ta'al), MK Majalli Whbee (Kadima), and MK Wasil Taha (NDA).
The website noted that, from the beginning, there was a very close race between Tibi and el-Sana, with the two receiving many more votes than all other candidates. As stated, the poll's surprise was the third-place win of Hanna Swaid, pulling ahead of better known MKs such as Bishara, Barakeh and Sarsur.
Site manager Basam Jabar told Ynet: "We mean to conduct similar surveys and it's important for us to examine the Arab public's response to the MKs. In this way, we're trying to create healthy competition between the MKs, to the benefit of the Arab sector."
Tibi said, in response to the outcomes, that his faction was satisfied with the results of the survey and that "the results obligate us to continue our good work. The work and effort we do for the Arab public, as well as our presence in the field, are what have brought about these results."
"I'm proud to receive the support of the public and their appreciation over the years, and on the Panet site, which is large and has many Arab readers – this means a lot. I thank all those who put their trust in me, and know that there is always room for improvement," he added.
