Las Vegas Jews enlist for PR duty

Vegas Jews take interest in Israeli public diplomacy effort

Gilad Millo, the Los Angeles Israeli Consul for Media and Public Affairs, arrived in Las Vegas several days ago at the invitation of the city's Jewish federation. Millo gave a 30 minute lecture about Israel at a meeting attended by the 15 most influential Jewish women in Las Vegas.

The prestigious group gathers three times a year and this time asked to be briefed by an Israeli diplomat. Millo spoke with the group about the Iranian threat, the consequences of the war against Hizbullah, Israeli public diplomacy efforts on campuses and various cultural issues.

The whole world gambles in Las Vegas and it seems like Jews are betting on the city itself. In 1990 there were only 20,000 Jews living in the city, today the number stands at 100,000. Every month sees some 700 new Jews. In 1980 the city had only four synagogues, recently construction has been completed on the city's 30th.
