Israel no longer Boeing-only

Israir to purchase two Airbus planes from Europe, to replace Boeing 757s

Boeing's monopoly on supplying planes to Israel appears to be coming to an end: Israir Airlines is in the final stages of negotiation to acquire two planes manufactured by European company Airbus.

Israir has been searching for a long time for two planes to replace it's Boeing 757s, which it used for international flights. It at first tried to acquire Boeing 737-800s, but was not successful.

In recent days, Airbus has increased efforts to advance Israir's acquisition of two A-320 planes of their making. If negotiations go as planned, it will end Boeing's unique monopoly on the Israeli aircraft market.

Airbus discovered an opportunity to break Boeing's monopoly and jumped on it, said a source in the company Monday.

Airbus representatives will visit Israel this week to try convince El Al - who recently cancelled an option to purchase Boeing 787s - to purchase their planes as well.
