Palestinian president to pay security forces

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will pay salaries to security forces using a portion of the USD 100 million in tax funds released by Israel, a top Abbas aide said on Saturday.
Palestinian security officials have warned that Abbas's inability to pay full salaries to the forces could increase lawlessness. The United States plans to provide USD 86 million to strengthen Abbas' presidential guard but US officials say none of that money will be used to pay salaries. (Reuters)
