Israel guest of honor at French book fair
Large stand at center of prestigious fair to be dedicated to Israel, to host dozens of Israeli authors
PARIS – Israel has been chosen as the guest of honor at the French Book Fair which will take place in March 2008.
A large stand at the center of the prestigious fair will be dedicated to Israel and will host dozens of Israeli authors. The decision to honor Israel recognizes the importance of Israeli literature, which has been receiving more and more appreciation worldwide.
Israel submitted its candidacy for the prestigious event 10 years ago and did not give up in spite of numerous failures.
The fair usually selects large countries (such as Russia two years ago and India this year) or French-speaking countries as its guests of honor.
Anita Mazor, Israel's cultural attaché in France, said that "the exposure will allow the French audience to discover Israeli writers who have not been known in France until now."
