Dr. Hirsch at the Maccabiah, part 2
Dr. Hirsch and his wife Lilly had a common interest – sports. The two visited the Land of Israel to take part in 2nd Maccabiah Games. Take a peek at the young athletes on their way to Israel and at the opening ceremony

Paul Hirsch was born in Moravia (the Czech Republic). He immigrated to Israel with his wife Lilly and their two children in 1939, four years after his previous visit to the Holy Land as a member of the Czech delegation to the 2nd Maccabiah Games.
Some 1,350 athletes from 28 countries took part in the 1935 Maccabiah, competing in 18 fields. Dr. Hirsch documented the Maccabiah experience with his camera.
Here is a peek at the photos taken on the way to Israel and at the opening ceremony held at the Tel Aviv port stadium:
The ship 'Rome' which brought the Maccabiah delegations from Europe. It weighed 33,000 tons and carried 1,650 passengers.
