Israeli pharmaceutical company gets FDA approval for generic version of drug that suppresses Prolactin production
Generic drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. said Thursday it received regulatory approval for a generic version of Pharmacia & Upjohn's Dostinex drug, which treats over-production of the hormone prolactin.
Dostinex is used to treat medical problems caused by too much production of prolactin, including menstrual problems, fertility problems in men and women, and tumors of the pituitary gland.
The Israeli company said the Food and Drug Administration approved its Cabergoline 0.5 milligram tablets. Teva plans to start shipments immediately.
The branded version has sales of $74 million a year, Teva said.
Teva's US-listed shares rose 38 cents to close at $36.58 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
