Captives' families send letter to British sailors' families

Relatives of kidnapped Israeli soldiers convey support, sympathy for families of 15 British troops held in Iran

The families of kidnapped Israeli soldiers Gilad Shalit, Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser sent a letter to the British Embassy in Israel Monday conveying their support for the families of the 15 British sailors who are being held by Iran.

The sailors were captured by the Iranian Navy Friday while on routine operation in the Persian Gulf.

In the letter, the families expressed their sympathy for the Britons' relatives, saying they were saddened to hear of the abduction. "We recoiled at the thought that another 15 families have joined the circle of uncertainty that we have been part of for 9 months.

"Like your sons, our sons were abducted while on a mission serving their country. Like your sons, our sons have parents, brothers, wives and friends."

They added, "We send you our love and blessings. We are sure you will find the immense strength you need to deal with the hard time that awaits you. This is the time to embrace family and friends, to join forces in order to return your sons home."

The Israeli families met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Monday, and said that the meeting was positive and promising. "We feel that there are those who regard our issue as a top priority and who are working to receive a sign of life from our sons," one of the family member said.
