Unidentified gunmen in southern Bangladesh shot dead a public prosecutor who pressed a case against six Islamic militants who were later convicted and executed, a news report said Thursday.
Hyder Hossain was killed when the assailants shot him in his head at close range, as he was returning home from a mosque after evening prayers, the United News of Bangladesh agency reported. Hossain prosecuted a case against the militants of the outlawed Jumatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh group who were charged in a bombing that killed two judges in 2005 in Jhalakathi district, 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of the capital, Dhaka.
