Turkey launches 'large scale' offensives against Kurdish rebels

The military has conducted several "large scale" offensive against separatist Kurdish rebels in the predominantly Kurdish southeastern region, the army chief said Thursday.
The offensives were launched to coincide with the spring thaw, when rebels generally intensify attacks on Turkey, as snow melts and mountain passes become easier to access, Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said. Turkey has been intensifying pressure on Iraq and the United States to crack down on the rebels
