Terror group denounces France

Palestinian Resistance Committees sends letter condemning Paris' call for release of Gilad Shalit

The Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) has sent an angry letter to the French government in which it condemned calls by Paris for the release of abducted Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

The PRC was one of the organizations that took part in the kidnapping of Shalit in a raid in June 2006. The French government has called for Shalit – who has dual Israeli-French nationality, to be released.

The message, posted on the PRC's website, is entitled "A letter from the Popular Resistance Committees in Palestine for the free world… and the French."

After attacking the French government for calling on Shalit to be set free, the letter states: "What has come from France, a country of freedom whose resistance vis-à-vis the German occupation became a reference for all?"

"All countries of the world, and France and its government in particular: Put an end to this ashamed behavior and withdraw your soldiers from the army of the Zionist assassins or withdraw them to your nationalities, before they share the fate of Shalit!" the letter warned.

It also called for the release of Palestinian prisoners, adding: "Take your Shalit and give us our Palestinians!"

"When the French Minister for Foreign Affairs, Philippe Douste Blazy, calls on the Palestinian unity government to release Corporal Shalit… he displays his scorn and makes a mockery out of all diplomatic and universal values," the letter continued.

In the message, France is accused of attempting to "discharge its historical responsibility," and "depriving Arabs of their right to assist the millions of Palestinians deprived and dispersed throughout the world."

"In its race to curry favor with Zionism, France does not hesitate to grant total immunity to Shalit and his comrades to enable them, later on, to replace bombs and other prohibited weapons which have left the bodies of our children in pieces," the letter stated.

"The declarations of the Foreign Minister of a European country like France are a true catastrophe because they mean that Europe assumed the right to support Zionist preparations a new war of aggression against Gaza to recover Corporal Shalit," the PRC declared.

"Is it necessary to recall that Shalit and his comrades did not come as tourists" the letter added.

The organization also complained of the "the general indifference to the atomic weapons which is in the Zionist arsenal," adding that "none in this world of blind men blink an eye."

In the PRC's online forum, where the letter was posted, a female supporter of the organization wrote: "Shall we continue to be lazy, and leave the arena to Zionist activists?

The email addresses of senior French government officials were posted on the site, and members were urged to forward the letter to as many addresses as possible.

The letter received supportive messages from other users of the PRC website, with one person writing: "God bless the Information Office of the People's Resistance Committees, and God bless the internet activists."
