University awards honorary doctorates
Bar-Ilan University awards honorary doctorates to nine outstanding individuals. Among the recipients ADL National Director, Abe Foxman and Marc Rich
In the framework of Bar Ilan University's 52nd Annual Board of Trustees meetings, honorary doctoral degrees were awarded to nine distinguished figures from Israel and abroad. Among the recipients Anti-Defamation League US National Director Abraham (Abe) Foxman, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Dan Gillerman, the Swiss businessman and philanthropist Marc Rich, and Israeli entrepreneur and industrialist Nochi Dankner.
Additional Honorary Doctorate degrees were awarded to 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Prof. Aaron Ciechanover, artist Menashe Kadishman, 1995 Israel Prize Laureate in Art, and three individuals who have distinguished themselves in their leadership in the Jewish community: Patricia Friedland has devoted many years of activity on behalf of the Canadian Jewish community and Israel; Everard Goodman, of Great Britain, will be honored for his longstanding commitment to Jewish causes and for his philanthropic and charitable activities in Britain and Israel; and Jack Slomovic, of Los Angeles, will receive the degree for his extensive efforts toward promoting Jewish education and ensuring the continuity and vitality of the American Jewish community.
A special Award of Distinction was presented Israeli singer Yehoram Gaon, for his outstanding contribution to the development of Hebrew song and for his vocal artistry. The award was presented this at a gala performance entitled "Jerusalem: Songs of My Heart" marking the 40th anniversary of the unification of Jerusalem in the wake of the Six-Day War.
