China urges diplomacy as US-Iran tensions rise

China called for stepped-up diplomacy with Iran on Thursday, a day after the UN nuclear watchdog reported that the regime was expanding its nuclear enrichment program and US ships arrived in the Persian Gulf in a show of force.

"Relevant parties should intensify diplomatic efforts and adopt a constructive approach so as to resume the talks at an early date and arrive at an enduring, comprehensive and proper solution," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu. "This serves the interests of all." (AP)
