Thai coup chief backs amnesty for banned officials
Thai coup leader General Sonthi Boonyaratglin said on Friday he was in favor of giving amnesties to Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister he ousted, and his party leaders after they were banned from politics.
Sonthi told state-run Channel 11 television an amnesty bill would have to be initiated by the prime minister he appointed, Surayud Chulanont, and sent to the army-appointed parliament. (Reuters)
