Reaching for the sky: apartment sells for $13 million

Israeli businessman purchases $13 million apartment in Yoo Towers

Prices for Israeli luxury real estate are going through the roof. A duplex in the Tel Aviv Yoo project was sold to an Israeli businessman for $13 million, reflecting $11,000 per square meter (11 square feet).

The apartment, 1,200 square meters (about 13,000 square feet), has 6 meter-high ceilings (20 feet) and a 360-degrees peripheral window. The design, by Philippe Starck, is intended to blend in with the art work owned by the purchaser.

This is the most expensive non-penthouse apartment to be sold in Israel. Last year Shary Arison purchased an apartment in Tel Aviv for the same sum, with a swimming pool and a private elevator .

The Yoo project comprises two 41-floor towers. One of the penthouses, 800 square meters (8610 square feet) was purchased by diamond tycoon Benny Steinmetz for $6.4 million ($8,000 per square meter).

Another penthouse in the project is owned by Herzl Habas, who is controlling shareholder of the project.
