Friends arrived at the home of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit Monday in a show of silent sympathy with his family members following the release of a recorded message from the captive.

After arriving home, Shalit’s family members entered their house directly, refusing to speak to reporters. They said they wanted to listen to their son’s message quietly and accurately before they commented on it.

Shalit’s neighbors said the tape brought up feelings of shock and confusion, along with great excitement at the clear sign of life.

Ornit Bar-Zeit, one of the family’s neighbors, said that listening to the tape brought up a lot of emotions in her.

“It only strengthens our demand to do everything in order to release him from his prison. I’m not a politician or an analyst, but our demand is simple, it’s the same demand we’ve been repeating for a year now: Release Gilad and bring him home,” she said.
