Africa Israel to convert Manhattan clock tower to boutique hotel

Israeli investment company holds talks with actor, hotelier Robert De Niro for partnership in converting the NYC landmark recently purchased by the company

Lev Leviev's Africa Israel investments company is holding advanced talks with actor and hotelier Robert De Niro toward his partnership in converting the Manhattan clock tower into a prestigious 6.4 acre boutique hotel.

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower, which is located directly across New York City's Madison Square Park, was purchased by an Africa Israel daughter company for $200 million last month.

Initially, the landmark was meant to be converted into luxurious housing units at a $110 million investment, but over the past month, Rotem Rosen, CEO of Africa-Israel Properties & Developments USA, has been holding talks with a number of leading hotel chains in the matter of converting the property.

A source from Africa Israel commented on the deal, saying, "We are holding talks with Robert De Niro and his associates on cooperation on the Manhattan clock tower, and with other sources…including other leading hotel chains."

Specific details on the transaction have not been given.
