Justice minister, chief rabbi reach agreement on civil marriage law

Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann and Israel's Chief Rabbi Shlomo Ammar reached an agreement for a bill proposal allowing civil marriage in Israel for couples ineligible to undergo a religious marriage on Wednesday.

The Justice Ministry reported that according to the agreement, civil marriage will take place in civil courts and jurisdiction on the matter will be with the family court for couples where neither partner is recognized as Jewish by Halachah. (Aviram Zino)
