Two Palestinians were shot and killed Saturday afternoon, by Golani Brigade soldiers who spotted them throwing grenades towards the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip.
Palestinian sources said the two were members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, Fatah’s military wing.
According to the IDF, the soldiers opened fire against the two Palestinians, who were trying to plant an explosive device near the border fence. None of the soldiers were injured in the incident.
The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades have been working in cooperation with the Islamic Jihad in recent months. Several senior members in the organization have recently been killed in IDF attacks.
Palestinian organizations such as the Islamic Jihad and the Salah al-Din Brigades, the Popular Resistance Committees' military wing, have vowed to continue attacks against the IDF in response to the assassinations.
Members of the organizations rejected Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad’s platform, which does not allow for armed resistance against the IDF by Palestinians.
“As far as we’re concerned, the resistance is a tool and a strategic perception, and we aren’t committed to all of the defeatist moves of this illegal government,” said Abu Abir, a PRC spokesperson.
