Dairy products prices to rise by 3.8%

Prices of products under price supervision grow due to sharp increase in grain prices used for animal feed

The prices of milk and other dairy products under price supervision will rise by an average of 3.8% soon, a joint committee of the Agriculture and Finance Ministries decided recently.

Supervised products include 1% and 3% fat milk in carton or bag, sour milk, sweet and sour cream, butter, yoghurts and hard chesses.

The rise in prices is mainly due to an increase in the prices of grains used for animal feed. Over the last 18 months, the prices of wheat have gone up by 75% and of corm by 55%.

Among the causes for the sharp rise in prices, according to the Israel Dairy Board, are the increase in demand in China, climate changes, a slump in the surplus of grains held by developed countries, and the growth in prices of maritime transportation.
