10% drop in new building projects in 2007
Some 41% of new apartments being built in 1 to 2-story buildings
In the first half of 2007, construction companies began building some 14,550 apartments, marking a 10% drop from the same period last year.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, a decrease in the number of new building was projects was recorded in Israel's central district (-26.7%), southern district (-25.6%) and in Tel Aviv (-7.8%).
However, data showed a rise in new building projects in Jerusalem, Haifa and the northern district.
Some 41% of the new apartments are being built in 1 to 2-story buildings (villas and buildings owned by two families only), while 59% percent of the apartments are being constructed in buildings that are 3 stories or higher.
