Lebanon parliament fails to elect new president

Lebanon's parliament session to elect a new president was postponed to October 23 on Tuesday for lack of a two-thirds quorum, Speaker Nabih Berri said in a statement.

The opposition stayed away from the session to elect a successor to pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud, blocking the anti-Syrian majority from choosing a new head of state. (Reuters)
