Israeli clarinet player Shirley Brill won Saturday second place at the Geneva International Music Competition, Councours de Geneva, held in the Swiss city last week.
Brill, 25, showed up for the finals with a severe flu, but nevertheless managed to wow the jury and collect the prestigious award.
In the final stage, Brill performed Mozart's Clarinet Concerto.
Some 133 contestants from 35 countries participated in the competition, seven of them from Israel.
In addition to a monetary award, Brill also won a recording contract with the Geneva Orchestra that will include a solo performance.
"It was very exciting and gave the feeling that this is a great achievement in the music world, both for women and for Israel," the excited Brill said Saturday.
