Turks vote 'yes' in referendum on electing presidents by popular vote

Turks on Sunday voted in favor of electing future presidents by popular rather than parliamentary vote in a referendum overshadowed by fighting between separatist Kurdish rebels and Turkish troops.

With almost all of the votes counted, 69% voted "yes" for the government-backed change to the law that would allow the people - not Parliament - to choose the head of state, according to the state-run Anatolia news agency. (AP)
