A president and a songwriter
New album including songs written by Peres to be released soon
He built the Dimona nuclear reactor, he served as a minister in Israel's government and was even the prime minister, but President Shimon Peres now has a new occupation: A songwriter.
On Tuesday, Peres will be awarded a honorary title by the Israel Hotel Association and is in for a surprise: His song "A prayer on the road" will be performed at the ceremony by singers Miriam Tukahn and David D'Or.
The music for the song, which was written by the president many years ago, was recently composed by Kobi Oshrat.
All the songs written by Peres over the years will be included in a new album which will be released soon. The songs' performers include Arkadi Duchin, Arik Sinai, Mazi Cohen, Yaffa Yarkoni, Shlomo Gronich, Matti Caspi and others.
The new album, titled "A prayer on the road", will be released in 20,000 copies. All those involved in the project, including the factory manufacturing the CDs, are volunteers.
The CD will not be marketed or sold to the public, but will be handed out by Peres as a gift to the many guests visiting the President's Residence.
