Yellow badge: Going once, twice… sold

Shoah memorabilia? Tel Aviv auction house sells two yellow badges

Two Magen David-shaped yellow badges with the word "Jew" were sold Sunday at the "Ben Ami Anders" Auction House in Tel Aviv.

Of the 1,344 items auctioned were two yellow badges (items no. 164 and 168) – used as identification marks of Jews during the Nazi era.

According to the auction house, there was nothing unusual about these items "that occasionally find their way to auctions".

They also did not see an ethical problem with selling the yellow badges that became a symbol of the Holocaust: "These are not rare items. They are available in every Holocaust museum. These are not Nazi icons which the law forbids to sell."

One of auction house's employees said that the increase in Israelis investments in Eastern Europe created an influx of items from the Nazi era.

So, how much is a yellow badge worth? The starting price of the cloth patch was $150, and it was sold for $240.
