Suspicion: Palestinians robbed Israeli cabby near Beit Jalla

Driver says three Palestinians threatened him with a knife, threw him out of taxi near Beit Jalla

Hebron Police is looking into a complaint filed by an Israeli taxi driver from Ashkelon who said he was kidnapped and robbed by three young Palestinian men on Friday.

According to the driver, the Palestinian passengers asked that he take them to the Israeli West Bank settlement of Beitar Ilit. The driver said he complied after the men presented him with Israel (blue) identification cards.

He told investigators that during the drive the three men pulled out a knife and demanded that he drive them instead to the Beit Jalla area, located just south of Jerusalem, where they threw him out of the taxi and sped away.

The driver said he was later safely transferred by Palestinian security officers to the IDF's Coordination Office near Jabalya.

Upon his return to Israeli territory, the driver was taken in for questioning at the Hebron Police station, and roadblocks were set up in an attempt to locate the Palestinians.
