Israeli men's doubles champions Yoni Erlich and Andy Ram advanced to the quarter finals at the Australian Open for the first time early Sunday after defeating Frantisek Cermak and Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic, 7-5, 6-3.

Erlich and Ram, who are ranked 8th in the tournament, are just one win away from equaling their greatest achievement in a Grand Slam tournament
to date: The semi-finals round at Wimbledon in 2003.

Israeli women's singles champ Shahar Peer, who was eliminated in the third round by Russia's Elena Dementieva, advanced to the third round of the women's doubles event along with her partner Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, after the pair defeated Emmanuelle Gagliardi and Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, 6-3, 6-3.

Peer and Azarenka (12), will next face India's Sania Mirza and her Australian partner Alicia Molik, seeded sixth.
