Lew Soloff visits Israel

One of world's leading jazz trumpeters arrives in Jewish state for concert tour, master's class. 'Israel has always been very special to me,' he says

Lew Soloff, 64, has been considered one of the leading jazz trumpeters in the world for four decades now. Probably best known for his work with Blood, Sweat & Tears, Soloff has worked with a large number of great artists, including Bill Evans, Frank Sinatra, Tito Puente, Marianne Faithfull, Mike Stern and Stanley Clarke.

Now, the Jewish New Yorker returns to Israel for a concert with Israeli jazz pianist Yuval Cohen.

Soloff and Cohen have never played together, but he says each is a fan of the other's music and they get along great. Soloff says he had learned throughout the years that if musicians get along on the state, the audience enjoys itself as well.

Soloff will begin his Israeli tour on Thursday at the Givatayim Threater, where he will launch the Jazz Festival. In the coming days he will perform in Hemdat Yamin, and the Zappa and Levontin clubs in Tel Aviv.

During his stay in Israel, Soloff is also expected to give a master's class at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music.

Soloff is one of the busiest Jazz musicians nowadays. After his Israel visit, he is expected to fly back to New York for one day, then to Japan, followed by a trip to Europe, after which he will return to the United States for a short holiday and will then be back on the road.

As for his visit to Israel, Soloff says that "as a Jew it is always a very spiritual experience. Israel has always been very special to me."
