Swinging '60s

British bands The Animals, Marmalade and Herman’s Hermits to play in Israel in June, rock Afula like it’s 1969

If you thought every possible cultural event was already planned for Israel’s 60th Independence Day, you thought wrong. In true "swinging '60s" style, British bands The Animals, Marmalade, and Herman’s Hermits, who revolutionized the British music scene in the 1960s, will perform in Israel as part of a huge rock concert to be held in the picturesque northern city of Afula.

Organized by Kol Rega Radio’s Reuven Lev, and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni’s brother, producer Eli Livni, the concert will be held in the Amphi-Park in Afula during the holiday of Shavuot.

This historic concert will be the very first one held in the newly built Amphi-Park, and will hopefully attract the many visitors who frequent the Jezreel Valley in springtime.

All three of the aforementioned British bands are still performing, and thriving, internationally nearly 50 years after their heyday. All three revolutionized the British, and international, music scene.

The Animals, for instance, are renowned for such hits as “The House of the Rising Sun”, “It’s My Life” and “We Gotta Get Out of this Place”.

Marmalade, in turn, boast such hits such as “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", which was remade by that other renowned '60s band, The Beatles, as well as “Reflections of My Life.”

Last but not least, Herman’s Hermits, who were the pioneers of the mod music genre, have hits such as “No Milk Today” and “There’s a Kind of Hush” on their illustrious resume.

“All three bands stated that they were very proud and pleased to perform in Israel especially due to the intrinsic bond shared by Israel and Britain,” said Reuven Lev.

“I know this might sound kind of strange, but we wanted to first spread word of this concert as close as possible to April 1, so that people will really start talking about this performance and wonder if it might just be an elaborate April Fool’s prank. I can assure everyone this concert will really and truly take place however.”
