A UN-appointed human rights expert says the United Nations must intervene to stop further deaths in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. South African law professor John Dugard criticized the UN Security Council and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for refusing to talk to the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
Dugard says the United Nations should help set up direct negotiations between Israel and Hamas to end what he calls ''this madness.'' (AP)
