Likud hints to media spin around Olmert’s probe

The Likud commented Thursday on a report indicating that a known party activist is behind Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s investigation: “This is a clear media spin by Olmert ahead of removing his gag order...  In any case, Olmert's investigations are not a matter between the Likud and the prime minister but between him and the legal system,” the party said in a statement.

A source close to the prime minister told London-based al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper that the person behind Olmert’s probe was a Likud activist who decided to expose the affair now because of the recent diplomatic progress made by the prime minister in the peace process. (Attila Somfalvi)
