Arab League to send mediating mission to Lebanon

None

The Arab League said on Sunday that it would send a delegation headed by Secretary-General Amr Moussa and the prime minister of Qatar to Beirut immediately to try to mediate the end of Lebanon's worst civil strife in 18 years.

Arab foreign ministers, holding an emergency session in Cairo, called on the Lebanese army to help the delegation enter the capital, an Arab League statement said.

The ministers invited leaders of the Hizbullah-led opposition, including Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and the main pillars of the government coalition to hold talks with the delegation to discuss the "serious situation". (Reuters)
