Russia's scattered and beleaguered opposition on Saturday formed a national assembly aimed at mounting a united front and issued a declaration calling the government illegitimate.
The assembly was formed at a meeting in Moscow of representatives of an array of groups ranging from liberals to nationalists. The assembly adopted a declaration calling the current government illegitimate on the grounds that presidential and parliamentary elections over the past six months were "Not free, not competitive and not honest."
