Spanish PM rejects plan for referendum on Basque region
On Tuesday, Spain's Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero rejected plans for a referendum of residents of the Basque region. The prime minister met with Basque regional president Juan Jose Ibarretxe in Madrid, but neither man changed his position.
Ibarretxe has never said specifically what question would be put in such a referendum, which he wants to hold in October of this year, but it is expected to ask whether the Basque people think they have the right to self-determination. (AP)
