Israel’s national bird – the Hoopoe
The Hoopoe has been crowned Israel’s national bird after winning the majority vote by a landslide, President Shimon Peres announced in a solemn ceremony Thursday.
According to the Israel Nature Preservation Society, which initiated the project, 155,000 people voted for their favorite bird over the last few months. (Erez Erlichman)
