Jerusalem conference seeks to 'build paths of peace'

'Our objective is to promote a rapprochement between Western and International societies and Israel,' AMISRAEL head says of conference hosting politicians and delegates from 14 Latin American countries

"For a considerable group of Western citizens, Israel is synonymous with war, conflicts and injustice, which to our judgment is an erroneous vision," AMISRAEL head Dr. William Soto said during of the Brazil-based organization's Jerusalem International Conference (JIC), which runs through June 5 at the Moriah Hotel in the capital.

The conference will host politicians and delegates from 14 Latin American countries and will feature meetings at the Foreign Ministry and the Knesset

AMISRAEL said it has recently established the Jerusalem International Conference as a key annual event bringing government ministers, legislative and judicial officials, and academic leaders from across the continent together to "mobilize support for Israel, peace, and general humanitarian values".

"Our objective is to promote a rapprochement between Western and International societies and Israel. Political, judicial and academic representatives from every country in which AMISRAEL works travel to Israel to exchange with their Israeli counterparts during panel discussions topics directed to their scope of action," Soto said.

"In essence, the JIC seeks to build paths of peace. In that search the proposal is that Jerusalem, whose name means 'city of peace' be a source of peace to the world," he said.

"The plan for the current conference is to reprogram the future proposing pacific solutions in the geopolitical, judicial and educational areas; interreligious dialogues are included because the core of primary conflicts and current wars is found in religious beliefs."

Soto added that during the conference "an important message will be sent from Jerusalem to all the corners of the planet, not only with the objective of informing the participants of the topics that will be discussed during this week but also to summon them to be active participants in the reprogramming of our future, which is on the verge of collapse.

"Our expectation is, that with the contribution of all the personalities from the different countries and the discussions that will emerge in regard to the selected topics, we can define a work plan in each country to consolidate or reprogram the initiatives that already have been adopted, and thus, we can walk the path of peace," he said.
