9 Israelis awarded prestigious Chevening scholarships
British embassy selects nine Israeli postgraduate students from hundreds of applicants for highly acclaimed program. British ambassador to hold special farewell dinner in their honor
The British Embassy in Israel has chosen five Israeli students to receive the prestigious Chevening scholarships in 2008.
The Chevening program provides scholarships for postgraduate studies and research in the UK. An additional four Israelis will travel to the UK on joint awards with private sponsors.
The British Ambassador to Israel, Tom Phillips, will host a farewell dinner for the scholars at his Ramat Gan residence on Thursday.
Human rights activists, lawyers, journalists, and an expert in environmental policy are amongst the diverse scholars who make up this year’s list of Chevening scholars. They will study topics ranging from global media and communications, to counter terrorism policy. Competition for the awards was fierce, as hundreds of student applied for it
This year’s scholars will join hundreds of other Israelis who have received Chevening Scholarships in the past including journalists Nadav Eyal, Dov Gilhar, Yaron Dekel and Ronen Bergman, Attorney Michael Sfard and many others. Over 1,000 Israelis are currently enrolled in studies in the UK.
