Kollek Jr. to run for Jerusalem mayor?
Film director Amos Kollek, son of capital’s renowned mayor, considers running for office in 2013 elections, claiming his father’s successors to date are unworthy
Director Amos Kollek, 61, the son of legendary former Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek, is planning to run for mayor at the next Jerusalem municipal elections in 2013.
Speaking on the phone from New York, Kollek told Yedioth Ahronoth, “I am seriously considering running for mayor of Jerusalem, being that my father has not been able to set up worthy successors.”
According to Kollek, he will only run for the position in the 2013 elections, as he is previously committed to directing and producing his film projects and will not be able to prepare himself on time for the next municipality elections.
Kollek spoke Monday at the cornerstone ceremony of a park named after his father in Jerusalem.
During his speech, Kollek criticized Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Jerusalem’s former mayor, saying “this is a sad moment for me, not only because my father is no longer with us, but because he has never been followed by a successor that could see the potential of the most sought after city in the world, unlike Olmert who was only elected mayor so he could become a prime minister, and we can see the results of this at the moment.”
