Report: Egyptian border guards kill Sudanese migrant in Sinai
Egyptian police official says migrant killed while trying to cross Israel illegally; seven other Sudanese arrested in separate incident south of Rafah
An Egyptian health official said Sunday border guards have killed a Sudanese migrant who was allegedly trying to cross illegally into Israel.
Imad Kharboush of El-Arish Hospital said 32-year-old Abdel-karim Ahmed Adam died Sunday of a gunshot wound to the chest.
A police official in Rafah said the migrant ignored warning shots and continued running toward the border fence. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, said seven other Sudanese have been arrested in a separate incident south of Rafah.
The migrants have told police that each had paid $500 to human traffickers to take them to the Israeli border. They were seeking political asylum and jobs in Israel.
