Meretz chairman: Releasing Palestinians, step in right direction

Meretz chairman MK Chaim Oron said that the government’s decision to release Palestinian prisoners as a gesture to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is “a step in the right direction.”
“As long as the calm is maintained, we must release prisoners who are public figures like former Fatah Secretary-General in the West Bank Marwan Barghouti and PFLP Secretary-General Ahmed Saadat but solely via negotiations with Abbas and not in submission to Hamas’ blackmail,” said Oron.
