Israeli athlete Niki Palli, who was slated to compete in the finals of the Beijing Olympics High Jump competition, was ousted from the medal race Sunday, after failing to make the 7.38-foot jump required in the qualification round.

Palli's first leap, supposed to be a warm-up jump, saw him clear the 6.89-foot jump with ease; a performance he reiterated in the 7.05-foot jump. Palli then cleared the 7.21-foot jump, but failed all three attempts to clear the next jump, at 7.38-foot.

Palli, whose first Olympic performance will now be remembered as uneventful, said he would use the experience in preparation for the next Olympic Games in London, in 2012.
