Israeli oarsman Michael Kolganov was unable to qualify for the Beijing Olympics' men's 1000-meter canoeing finals Wednesday, after finishing in eight place, and setting a time of 3:43:10m.

Kolganov's next attempt at an Olympic final is scheduled for Thursday, when he will row in the men's 500-meter race. The latter won Kolganov an Olympic bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Games.

In other waters, sailor Sharar Zubari won Israel's first – and so far only – 2008 Olympic medal, after coming in second in his last RX:S windsurfing sail and taking the bronze.

Surfer Maayan Davidovitz finished her 10th and last RS:X windsurfing sail in the sixth place, ranking 10th overall.

Later on Wednesday Israeli pole vaulter Alex Averbukh failed to reach the finals at the Beijing Olympics after vaulting only 5.45 meters on his third attempt.

The former European champion failed in his three attempts to jump 5.65 and was ousted from the competition in the preliminary stage. (Ynet)
